Starting Our Montenegro Travel Adventure

This Montenegro travel experience was unforgettable from the start. I’ve visited the stunning Bay of Kotor before, but this time I wanted to explore a different side of the country, so I headed toward the beaches of Budva. Right away, the adventure began: we took a quick five-minute ferry ride, soaking up gorgeous views of the coastline along the way.

Relaxing at Jaz Beach

Our first stop was Jaz Beach, famous for its dreamy scenery and crystal-clear turquoise water. The beach is spacious, with beach bars everywhere, super affordable prices (two sunbeds for just €15!), and a relaxed vibe perfect for unwinding. The water was stunningly clean and transparent — that striking blue color makes you fall in love instantly.

Braving the Serpentine Road (If You Dare!)

After enjoying the beach, we set off toward the Alpine Coaster by tackling the legendary serpentine road. This winding route is absolutely unforgettable, with jaw-dropping views waiting at every hairpin turn — and trust me, there are a lot of hairpin turns! The drive itself becomes part roller coaster, part sightseeing tour, and part test of your nerves. But here’s the thing: it’s definitely not for everyone — this road is a thrill reserved for confident drivers who don’t mind sharp curves and roads barely wider than your car.

If you prefer to keep your heart rate under control, the cable car is hands down the best choice. It’s easy, comfortable, and still gives you those same incredible views — minus the sweaty palms!

Experiencing the Alpine Coaster with Epic Views

When we reached the area at the top, I was blown away: they’ve created an amazing outdoor adventure park that’s so much more than just the coaster.

The Alpine Coaster is built on the slope toward the Bay of Kotor, so almost the entire ride gives you jaw-dropping views over the bay and surrounding mountains. Although it looks a bit intimidating at first, it’s completely safe and you control your own speed — you can accelerate or brake whenever you like. It’s pure adrenaline and fun, all with Montenegro’s dramatic scenery unfolding beneath you.

Activities at the Mountain Station

Up at the mountain station (Kuk station), there are plenty of things to do. You can try archery, rent bicycles to explore scenic bike trails, or simply relax on a panoramic terrace with incredible views over Kotor Bay and the Montenegrin mountains. There’s also a cozy café and bar where you can enjoy a drink with probably the best views I’ve ever seen. Plus, you’ll find a kids’ playground, adventure park, yoga area, and walking paths. Sometimes, there’s even a live DJ adding to the unique atmosphere.

How to Get There Easily

To reach this area, you have two options: drive up the challenging serpentine road — which, although memorable, is best left to confident drivers — or, much easier, take the modern cable car connecting Kotor with Mount Lovćen. If you’re staying in Kotor, you can simply grab a shuttle from the Kotor bus station straight to the cable car station, which makes the whole trip easy even if you don’t have a car.

Ending in Beautiful Kotor

After finishing at the Alpine Coaster, our last stop was Kotor itself — an incredible place that deserves its own story. I can’t recommend exploring Kotor enough; it’s a city full of charm and history.

Returning to Dubrovnik

After a full day of adventure and unforgettable sights, we made our way back to Dubrovnik, already thinking about when we could return to Montenegro for even longer.

Final Thoughts on Montenegro Travel

My personal opinion? Montenegro is becoming more and more attractive as a destination. The value for money is unbeatable, the nature is breathtaking, and the coast still feels wild and authentic. The only downside was that they’re currently building a new highway, so part of the drive was slow and dusty. But honestly, the incredible landscapes more than make up for any inconvenience.

One thing is certain: next time, I’ll come back for at least a week to truly experience Montenegro the way it deserves. Montenegro, every time I come back, I fall a little more in love.
