When planning our Croatian adventure, we had Split on the list — like everyone else. But we ended up falling head over heels for a smaller, quieter place nearby: Trogir.

Imagine a little town, full of stone houses, charming alleys, and vibrant life, all wrapped up neatly on a small island just a bridge away from the mainland. That’s Trogir. It’s like stepping into a postcard, but without the crowds.

The Beauty of Trogir

Trogir’s beauty is truly something else.
The town is a maze of narrow cobbled streets, beautiful little squares, and historical stone buildings that somehow feel alive with stories. Every corner invites you to slow down and simply be — whether you’re admiring the old churches or stopping for a coffee under the shade of a palm tree.

One of my favorite moments was strolling along the docks in the early evening. The air smelled like the sea, people were gathered at cozy waterfront restaurants having dinner, and live music floated through the air. It was pure magic. The twins loved it too — they danced a little to the music and waved to the boats bobbing gently in the harbor. Simple, sweet memories.

The Blend of Mainland and Island Life

What makes Trogir so special is how it balances island charm with easy access.
You don’t need a ferry or a long boat ride — just cross a short bridge and you’re there, wrapped up in this peaceful, timeless atmosphere. It’s close enough to everything but feels like a quiet escape.

Beach Escapes on the Drvenik Islands

If you’re in the mood for beach time (and who isn’t?), you’re in luck.
From Trogir, it’s an easy boat ride to the beautiful Drvenik Islands — especially Drvenik Veli and Drvenik Mali.
We spent a dreamy afternoon at Krknjaši Beach, also called the Blue Lagoon. Picture clear turquoise waters, soft sandy spots, and a peaceful vibe that’s just perfect for families. The kids could swim safely, hunt for seashells, and just be their happy, wild selves. (And honestly, I could have floated in that warm, blue water all day!)

Trogir is for everyone

Trogir is a destination that truly welcomes everyone — whether you’re traveling as a family, a couple, or with friends. The old town is full of lovely seaside taverns, cozy cafés, and small shops perfect for wandering. You’ll find safe playgrounds for the little ones, chilled-out bars for relaxed evenings, and the kind of scenery that makes every photo look like a postcard. One of the highlights for all visitors is a visit to the Kamerlengo Fortress, where you can walk the ancient walls and enjoy breathtaking views over the rooftops and the sea — kids love it for the adventure, and adults for the photo ops. And something that adds a unique touch to the whole vibe is the line of sailing boats and yachts docked along the promenade, giving Trogir a subtle cosmopolitan charm that blends perfectly with its historic heart. Whether you’re sipping wine by the sea, sharing laughs with friends, or strolling hand in hand with your partner, Trogir makes everyone feel like they belong.

Final Thoughts

Trogir might be small, but it’s packed with charm, beauty, and plenty of family-friendly magic.
Whether you’re wandering through sun-drenched alleys, swimming in hidden lagoons, or just enjoying a simple stroll by the docks with live music in the air, Trogir has a way of stealing your heart without you even realizing it.

If you’re looking for a Croatian destination that’s just as magical as it is manageable with kids — this is it.
